UCA Farnham Fine Art Exhibition - WORK!

UCA Farnham Fine Art students across years 1, 2 & 3 have been developing work over the last two weeks in the studios. This week students were given the task of using their developing work to put together a flash exhibition.

Students across all three years had just two days to work collaboratively to clear, prepare and curate a salon exhibition of their work in progress. Work in the exhibition covers the diverse range of conceptual and practical approaches to contemporary fine art practice that are supported and provoked within Fine Art at UCA Farnham.

Jamie Shovlin "Hiker Meat" Artist Film Review in The Guardian

UCA Farnham Fine Art visiting lecturer Jamie Shovelin's new film "Hiker Meat" has a review in The Guardian ahead of it's screening at the Cornerhouse in Manchester on 18th January. 
Jamie continues to support students at Farnham with the development of their work and will be attending UCA Farnham over the coming week for individual tutorials and to present his film for discussion on Wednesday 22nd January.

Year 2 Students Collaborative Project - Wunderkammer 2013

As part of their Contemporary Exhibition Practice unit work, a group of students from year 2, this week have collaborated to install work in the UCA Farnham project space CASE, to create a "Wunderkammer".

Whilst the students all have their own practice they have worked together to produce a 'Merz' installation utilising found materials from the UCA Farnham campus textiles facilities. The Wunderkammer contains a cohesive body of pieces devised by students from video, expanded sculpture and performance.

Matt Page was hidden inside the installation unknown to the attending public. I spoke to him about his involvement in the project.

Matthew Bennington at UCA today!

Artist Matthew Bennington visited UCA Farnham today to present his work that encompasses print and film. He also provided support to year 1 students with the development of their project work.

"For me art has to be about art. I’m fully aware that not all artists are like me – I respect that, and I definitely don’t think my taste in art is superior. I’m cool with art that’s about other concepts, but for some reason, I never manage to relate to art that is about a foreign subject such as the ‘Vietnam War’, ‘the artist’s childhood’ or ‘the artist’s broken heart’, as much as art that is about a more broad subject like visual perception, life, death, or art itself. For me, I want everything a work of art has to say to be obtainable from the artwork itself – I don’t like it when I have to know the back story to appreciate the artwork.

That said, there are artworks that have a strong narration behind them – which I find interesting before I know the narration, and if there is a narration, I can’t resist not getting to know it."
