MONUMENT
"The term monumentality suggests qualities of inertness, opacity, permanence, remoteness, distance, preciosity, and grandeur. Yet monuments are prized precisely because they are not merely cold, hard, and permanent. They are also living vital, immediate, and accessible, as least to some parts of society."
(Monuments and Memory, Made and Unmade, 2003:3)
"A monument is what art history chooses to celebrate and proclaim as a monument."
