This week a group of year 2 students devised an exhibition in the studio project space that explored  making work of temporary nature, formed in response to Gustav Metzger's up and coming exhibition "Mass Media" in the James Hockey Gallery at UCA Farnham this March. This opened up questions about the value of the art object, the relationship of duration and performance in making art.

UCA Farnham year 2 students worked collectively to put together the second CheckOUT exhibition in one of the studio project spaces. This week students decided to question the role of the gallery space and the nature of what constitutes a work of art with their piece "BE THE WHITE CUBE" work. This work drew students from not just Fine Art but also other courses at Farnham such as illustration and film, to spend over an hour discussing the issues raised in the event.

Over the next month Year 2 students have been tasked to use one of the project spaces in the studio to hold an exhibition of their work as part of the CheckOUT project.

Students are picked at random to form a group, and then have to examine their work to find common ground amidst the broad range of approaches that make up the student cohort's creative practice. 

Students then devise a group exhibition and have to engage with how they use the project space and the problems of curating. 

Students have to also develop a lunchtime lecture series that explore the themes present within their exhibition which this week is titled "Jolie Laide".
